Radio Code

Bought a used 1990 Mercedes 300CE and don't have the radio code. I have searched the forums and tried all the known codes.

What is the surest way to get the radio code for my car?

Pull out the radio and find the serial number, then call or visit a Mercedes dealer parts department and ask them to look it up. Buying something, anything cheap like an oil filter, will help motivate the guy behind the counter.

If you have the books for the car look through them completely. I found the radio code scribbled inside the last page of my 400e owners manual. If your radio is displaying - - - - (four dashes) its toast. As mentioned, the dealer can look up the code using the VIN if the radio is original. If not, then yes, they need the radio s/n

Tried to enter a code number and it took it but now just says "wait".

So I wait and wait and wait.........nothing, just turned it off.

They are saying that you need to turn the ignition ON with the radio ON and wait. Usually 1 or 2 hours (never heard of 24 being required), the radio will eventually go back to saying CODE. THEN make sure you have the correct code, then enter it. Don't guess at the code. (The comment about the battery charger means you might want to put a charger on the battery, as it might go dead from leaving the key ON for that long)

Check what "benzworldrefuge" is saying, very often you will find the code written down in one of the books, look for some hand-written 4 digit number. We always used to write it on the warranty sheet in the back of the maintenance log.

A call to a Mercedes dealer will often get you the code, they can look it up in the Mercedes computer.

Question blank radio code any ideas?

This thread reminded me.
I have an '88 560SL that supposedly had the original Becker radio. It turns on and off great but needs the code. I went to a dealer for other parts. They were nice enough to look up the radio for me, but on the Mercedes site
my radio code is not there. The space is blank. The dealer even showed me his screen. The radios above and below mine have codes. My radio's code spot is blank. I finally just put in an aftermarket radio. Anyone have any ideas?
thanks
bill

I really don't think the 107's ever used a radio code. They would get rhe "dashed line" mode which a dealer would have to reset with a special reset tool.

Clarion radio\'s are normally found in Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Land Rover, Peugeot, Range Rover, Renualt, SAAB and VW. If you\'ve lost your CLARION Radio Code, recovering it can be a hassle.
Trying to track down previous owners in the hope that they may have the code recorded tends to be a time consuming and often futile course of action.
Many CLARION dealers take advantage of the situation by charging an unrealistically high fee to recover the code.
We propose you much cheaper and really fast solution!
Codes For Most CLARION Radios

We can recover radio codes for most CLARION radios with serial numbers consisting of 12 symbols.

Ok,

Got the code from Becker and the radio still does not work. It turns on but no sound, nor does the antenna work.

I am considering going away from the orginal (Becker 1480), although I am having a tough time with that, and putting in an aftermarket.

Someone told me that they have to some "alterations" when they install an aftermarket radio (Nakamichi) in a Mercedes due to applification

Is this true?? What kind of alterations are these?
