I was wondering what is the best type of speakers to replace the factories speakers with?
This is a 1985 380 SE.

Go for some Kenwood/Clarion/Infinity/Pioneer speakers. Don't buy speakers that are more than 90W because you'd have to buy an amp after that.

BC,

2 things,
Try Crutchfield( www.crutchfield.com) to lookup what size speakers you have now in the various locations. or
Remove the Grilles/Panels and measure the speakers in place. I pulled my front dash covering and found I have 4" rounds in the dash. 5.25" in the door, and have yet to pull the rears.

Get the measurments and scour the web for good deals. (Try www.onsale.com) If you are an audio technofile then seek help from a pro shop with a reputation.

I'm not sure I've heard of the "Kenwood/Clarion/Infinity/Pioneer" brand of speakers. Sounds like a new conglomerate.

Do you have the original head unit?
Might look at redoing that also.
Good Luck,

Mike, I think he was trying to say Kenwood or Infinity etc.

Lets not pull each other up on our English, as its not the first language for some of us ;-)

Also Mike, I think you'll also have 4" rounds in the rear although the grille is rectangular and one could probably squeeze some 5x7s under there. Pulling the grill off is just a matter of raising the headrest and pulling the grill up and towards the first aid kit.

How do you find the fuel economy of the 400E btw?

Brian

Mercedes seems to have a fondness for 4" speakers. My rear ones were pretty good so I complemented them with a set of pioneer tweeters that sit just under the grill on top of the foam padding behind the actual speaker. It helped the spacial imaging of the music. I am thinking of going with pioneer 2ways for the front with a sub and amp to come later.

ps. Amadou and Mike, could you guys please relax on the animosity, just let it go........lets not turn our forum into something like the others. I appreciate it thanks.

Nicely put Yal.

Tweeters on the rear deck are a very personal preference I think.. When you go to a concert, do you stand with your back to the singer? High frequencies at the back tend to drag the image behind you.

*however*

sometimes tweeters in the rear add a lot of depth to the music if set up right.

Its very hit or miss ;-)
