I have 1988 300 CE and I would like to change the factory speakers located in the desh board, but I have no idea how to take them out of there. Where do I start? One time I called Crutchfild and they told me that these speaker are European 4" metric and they do not carry any metric. What kind of speakers and where can I get them?
Thanks for any Info on it!

They are right on the size of the speakers. Surprised they dont have any though. They are quite easy to take out. Get a small flat blade screwdriver. Find the little plastic strip that runs along the side of the speaker grille against the dashboard (about 1/2 wide). Use the screwdriver to pop this off (careful or you'll mark the grille or the dash.) Once youve done this, you'll see 2 screws, remove them. Then the whole grille comes off. To get the speakers out depends on what they put in there to begin with. On my CE I had to poke around the edge of the speaker until i found a metal tab that holds it in place. Perhaps someone else can elaborate here as I dont think my dash speakers were factory. ;-)

Once you have them out you can decide this bit. You can either get direct replacements.. I think MB Quart and Polk do direct replacements, *but* if your prepared to do a little cutting/woodwork you can fit any 4" or even 5" driver you like. You really have to have a coaxial in that position to give you the treble unless you want to put a seperate tweeter under the grill (There is room....*JUST*)

Have fun!

Just to be clear, the small piece of trim to be removed goes straight up to be released. Try getting a stiff piece of plastic under it and pry up
