I have heard the problems with fitting larger or different speakers into a 190E. I own a 190E 16 valve and especially do not want to take away from the factory look of the car. Does anyone have a plans to build a rear deck or have info where I can get a replacement deck that I can modify and install. I was looking to put in some 6x9 or so. Is there any problems with clearance of the sheet metal underneath the shelf.

All replies are welcome
Thanks much
Pete

If I find a nice professional way to make it happen I will post the news and/or plans

Why not upgrade the current speakers? What are you looking for? An improvement in bass? Clarity? You could always upgrade your current rear speakers, using those for mid/treble and add a single larger speaker for sub/midbass.

Anyway, if your determined to keep a factory look, I think your only option is to install something in the trunk. The moment you cut that rear deck, you're in trouble...your resale value will plummet.

Let us know what sound you're after, and we'll endeavour to help.

I am trying to bring more mid-frequencies into the spectrum. Something more than a 3.5" that is in there now. Not quite sure of the exact freq, Between 10kHz and 1Khz. Something along the lines of a good 6x9". I am trying to keep the clarity of in cabin components, while I might consider a bass cabinet in the trunk later on. I am just looking for a good, tolerable system that won't be centered around the extremely high freq that I have now. My main concern and question however is, is there a way to install 6x9" speakers into shelf, possibly a custom built shelf that does not require cutting the sheet metal below the shelf.

Maybe raising the areas around where the speaker would go to compensate for the clearence, I don't know.

What I am thinking is getting a spare rear shelf, modifying that shelf to fit the speakers and istall that shelf, while I keep the original shelf in factory spec condition.

As for a big woofer mounted in the shelf that is out of the question. I am not that big on clarity in a sound system for a car.

Thanks
Pete
