I have a 98 CLK coupe and I installed the aftermarket Alpine CD deck under the hat shelf where the subwoofers are located. My dealer says that putting it there is a bad idea and can cause interior vibration noises due to the weight hanging off the shelf. This sounds like a lot of bunk. Must I install it ONLY in the recessed area on the trunk floor? Have you heard of vibration from trunk shelf mounting?

Ummm quite a lot of cars have the CD changer mounted there straight from the factory. I think your dealer is quite frankly.... wrong ;-) Have you felt how thick that metal is? And how light a CD changer is? hehe. I wouldnt worry about it.
