Speakers, I went with Focals ... really sharp.
I looked at that unit. It was the best Alpine had for what I was looking for. My only complaints where that the control knob seemed large and the screen small compared to my 7800MP. I felt like I was losing screen real estate.

Also all these new head unit seem to love Pandora integration.

I'd actually be happy staying with my 7800MP if i could find one of those Pioneer USB modules. They were a deal at $60, you could plug in any usb storage to the deck and play it like the newer ones, but alas NLA.

EDIT: Sorry it wasnt that model, it was the iDA-X305S

The USB plug in the front of the deck in that last one is cool ... mine has it routed into the back and I just stuck the iPod/USB port in the glovebox, which works well for me. I like the big dial, very easy to turn. Only problem with my screen is it's very hard to see when there's sun shining on it, though I'm guessing that would be a problem with any LCD display. I just have to make sure I've settled on one album before I get the sun behind me.

I have the same problem! Hard to read in the sun. I have to put my hand near the far side and shade it lol.

My 300SD's deck has a larger wheel. Its nice as well.

On the subject of possible hearing loss as a result of adding a subwoofer to the mix:

1. Sub installs are generally in the trunk.
2. Sub frequencies are in the order of 80 Hz and lower. The lowest frequency spectrum is "felt", not "heard".

Most hearing loss is in the prolonged exposure to the higher frequencies, not bass. If you ever left a rock concert or dance club with ears "ringing", it's from those large tweeter arrays and midrange horns, not the bass drivers.

And for this particular application, retaining the OEM setup is a sure bet that there will be little to no added hearing loss...
