Very sorry to hear about your aunt. Cancer is a horrible disease; that we can all agree on. Back on subwoofers, I have a 12-inch Polk DB in a pre-made box with a 300w amp (which also has 4X75 for the speakers). It does not rattle the heck out of the car, and really you can't even hear it much outside the car. It adds a nice touch to pretty much anything I'm listening too, even if it's Rachmaninoff.

I find the MB does a fine job of containing pretty much all the audio (and for that matter, keeping outside noise out). The only downside of putting the sub in the trunk is it does have to be fairly loud to be heard through the fuel tank, which is in between the trunk and cabin. But I can hear/feel the bass in the cabin area, then step outside and shut the door and not feel it outside. I also think having a sub to handle the bass allows the main speakers to better handle just the mid and lows and makes a nicer overall clarity.

Easy answer is to find a nice W210 with the Bose system already in it. Or just retrofit that W210 system into your W124. A nice full sound without the dicey aftermarket issues.

In audiophile circles Bose products are looked down upon. Their speakers are often overpriced and lack full accurate sound response. I do have a few of them too as well as some vintage Avid 3-ways which put them to shame. On top of that it would be 'aftermarket' because you'd end up customizing harnesses and what not to get everything to fit/work. Far cheaper to just use aftermarket products. The Boston Acoustics speakers have been in my 190E for 11 years without any problems. I've not had any 'dicey aftermarket issues.'

OP might want to consider applying sound deadening material to the trunk and door panels. Not only will it quite down inside road noise but it will keep the metal from vibrating and making that boom boom boom noise that we associate with cheap boom-box type cars. I've used this stuff in the past. Its fairly cheap. I think I bought 96$ worth when it was on sale for $1.60. Came in two rolls. I still have the second roll. Elemental Designs: Car Stereo, Home Speakers, Electronics

Yeah, I plan on installing a nice Alpine system. I'm going to try to only spend about $600 though. I don't have money stashed around for stuff like that.Good idea on the sound deadener too!! |

Personally, I think Pioneer headunits are better looking than Alpine units. I've been wanting put a MVH-P8300BT in the 190 but they don't make them anymore

See, I like the looks and quality of the Alpine stuff, but that is just an opinion. I want to get a nice subwoofer because my music doesn't sound right without the BOOM.

The easiest (not cheapest) answer is to buy the W210.

I've never been a fan of the W210. Those headlights are hideous! The 210s look more feminine if you ask me.
The 124/126/201/140/129 cars all have a masculine look to them.

Oops! I was mixed up, I was thinking the W201. I am not really a fan of the W210. I don't hate them, but would rather a W129! |
