I have a 300D with all original speakers and a Becker and they suck. What size should I get for the front and rear that would fit in the original provisions for both front and rear. Any brand and model recommended? I'm not planning to put an AMP, just my Kenwood Deck which delivers 35x4 peak. Thanks! Francis |
What year? Makes a difference, as the newer W124s had door speakers too.

Theres been quite a lot of discussion on this... the general consensus is go for something like MBQuart if you need to stick with the stock sizes.
If you're willing to custom mount stuff, the world is your oyster ! Bri ------------------ Brian Drought 1991 300CE http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~drought/ ICQ: 2180069 |

I just changed all 4 of my speakers in my 89 300E, and it was a pain in the butt. You will not have a large variety of speakers to choose from. The front carry 4"s, and the rear deck holds 5"....I put 5 1/4 in the back, they are alittle bigger, and you will have to make some modifications. I think Polk carries the rear deck speakes, which are about $89 from Crutchfield. If you want beautiful clear sound, go with JBL's like I did Agron 1989 300E |
Thanks! I'll go check out the site :)

Francis: Replacing your paper cone oe speakers with any good co-axial speakers will make a noticeable difference because your speaker produce no high frequencies. If you want to hear a dramatic difference, you must make two changes:1) Replace the awefull Grand Prix tape deck with a CD deck, and 2) use a 4 channel amplifier with about 50 wrms/channel. The amount of wattage does not need to be very high because small speakers draw very little wattage. The clarity will amaze you! A subwoofer draws huge wattage, but you would only need a 10" or 12" single woofer for awesome low frequencies! Although many companies sell small sub enclosures already loaded with woofers, unless your goal is to entertain the kids on the sidewalk, you will want an enclosure that delivers the bass INTO your car-not the trunk! Like one that has a port that exits under the first aid kit cover.
