Wiring a switch into older Hirschmann for w124

Hey guys,

So my W124 has been taking much of my time up with trying to 'un-do' the previous owners neglect. Latley I've been working on the stereo. I was able to fix my factory amp (solder'd in a new overload trans.) and' of course, I've one sub not working. But anyway, so when I bought the car, It had one of those Ghetto short black antenna's that you get from wal-mart installed. Well, that just wont do. So i bought one off ebay and, i guess I didn't pay attention but, it's definently for a W123. So since It dosn't have the auto up/down feature, how do I go about wiring in a switch so that I can controll that function. When I plug the antenna it, it just bring the mast down, no matter what function I have the radio set on. This is for a 1995 E300 diesel FYI

You're a little sparse on details. I assume you've got some sort of OE-like radio and a Hirschmann power antenna.

Hirschmann's got a pretty good site for antenna info, so you should be able to find details there.

If it's a 3-wire Hirschmann, you need to find the steady +12 input for the motor, ground and the third wire would go from your radio trigger or accessory output, typically some variation of blue or blue/red or black to the antenna switch (if present on your W124).

If it's a five wire antenna it's a bit more complicated but you basically just have to figure out which wires to ignore.

I'd start at the head unit and verify there's a trigger signal, then trace that to the trunk (blue or blue white, probably).

your car most probably had the radio antenna with the telephone filter on it too, its a W202/W140 part and uses a flat blade connector not round pin ones the wiring is very simple like the old ones, red, brown and blue.

You can install a generic hirschmann antenna in place of it (or if its missing) and it fits and operates perfectly. To operate the antenna up feature you should get 12V at the blue wire in the trunk when the radio is turned on.
