Could fader wheel be resonsible for static sound in speakers? Also did Becker produce any radios for this car which did not have cassette as standard? I bought the car from a private party without checking this matter out. What should be the tape door does not move and further inspection shows little inside of unit that looks like tape player. Visible from underneath radio thru slot behind tape door. Any info greatly appreciated.

It's possible that the fader could be causing some static-ey sound when you're adjusting it; however, continuing static is unlikely.

I'm surprised that there's no tape player; where do you live? I have the head unit from a '92 500E that might help...let me know
