190e door speaker question
I have read most of the posts here and still have a question. I am new to Mercedes and have a 1985 190e. I know that late model 190's have door speakers and they are in some sort of enclosure (which I have not seen). Is this enclosure a bolt on to the door speaker pocket that replaces the standard bolt on door pocket? If so, can I retrofit one to my 85 without too much difficulty? Is there an aftermerket source for pre-made door pockets with speaker accommodations? I know that on my 911 I was able to order replacement door pockets for speakers.. just hoping same is available for my 190. Thanks in advance.

The speakers mount to a plastic frame that bolts onto the door to studs that are not there in your car and there is metal that needs to be removed. I believe the complete door panel needs to be replaced . I have done one 124 car upgrading to door speakers but I haven't done a 190 yet. My 2 cents would be spent on a rear sub location instead as it is much easier to use the 1st aid kit and install in there. It will sound a lot better for a lot less money. The door speakers do ok but the phasing of the speakers when they are facing each other is always a problem. It is not a great place for subs and even worse for mid bass.
