do you know anything about the speaker wiring in a CLK? in the trunk there are 4 sets of speaker wires driving 8 speakers. i have the MB wiring diagram but it dont know where the "splitter" is and how exactly they are wired, ie series/parallel. i have measured the resistance in the trunk, testing the "left bank", first in parallel (about 1 ohm) and series (way to high). the aftermarket amp is not 1 ohm stable, so i cant use that load. i have considered using a resister, but what i really would like to try is isolating the front door spkr and triangle spkr and ignoring the rear door and rear deck. i havent measured that resistance yet because the diagram is not clear as to how to do that. i have not "experimented" yet. do you know or can you steer me to a reference to find out? also, who makes an adjustable line level converter that i could easily find in town? i will use it in the trunk. the deck has had RCAs placed, but there is no way to adjust it and the output voltage is way 2 low (200mV). one more; where can i get plugs to be used for custom applications? i have looked at radio shack and parts express and cant find any. they would be used in order to avoid splicing into factory wiring. thanks...

Cant you just do the left bank (currently 1 ohm) and disconnect the rear speakers at the doors?
Also, a 4ohm mid, and 4om tweeter are NOT a 2ohm load. With a multimeter they might be, but with an audio signal, its more complex than that. At bass frequencies, the tweeter is not in circuit (capacitor blocks it out), so it impedance doesnt count, and vice versa. So: 4ohm mid, and 4 ohm mid in parralell.... 2 ohm load 4ohm mid, 4 ohm tweet in parralel.... 4 ohm load Make sense? i do understand the calculation for resistance and the capacitor. disconnecting the rear door is a good idea but i have learned that access to the speaker would be very difficult and i wont take it to the dealer for removal and replacement. if i knew where the "splitter" was, i could disconnect it there, but i dont. the other issue is that the amp will see a load that is way to low and because it is not stable at that load, it will clip and surely fry speakers, at least that is what i think. you didnt address the questions in the original post. could you look at those and give me your opinion? thanks for the input..
PS, have you seen the infinity 10"sub/enclosure/amp? it is very compact and looks like it would work well. it may be something that i will consider when i get the CLK 55..thanks again.. |

No idea where the splitter is at all! Any ideas folks? Not hard to get behind the doors, should just pull off.
For odd plugs, try www.digikey.com As far as line convertors, I have no idea, as I hate the things with a passion.... ;-) There are some reasonale ones out there tho, but being in the wrong country I couldnt advise you of makes.
