Is it possible to use the front channels of a head unit to drive the midrange front speakers of a component set, and use the rear channels of the head unit to drive the front tweeter portion of the component set? I am not using rear speakers, and am probably going to drive a rear sub with an external amp, so the head unit rear channels would not normally be used in my application. I don't know if this is a workable proposal -any ideas?

Sure....just wire it up. No modification needed. Just remember that your fader control is now a mid/tweet balance control.

My system is setup like this too (from a 5 channel amp, not the headunit).

Thanks! It seemed logical, so I assumed there must be a catch. Since it is allowable, what is the procedure for installing the crossover box? Just on the rear (front tweeter) channels? Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

Depends. Most component sets only have a high pass filter on the tweeters, and the mids run full range. Some do have a low pass filter on the mids to stop treble coming through, which *can* cause the cone of the mid to 'wobble' at the upper reaches of its range (about 4kHz ish)

However, for starters, yes, just use the crossover on the tweeter side, and connect the mid/bass directly to the rear channels. See what it sounds like.

You may need to adjust the fader a bit in one direcion to get it to sound right.
