W126 Front Speaker Install

So this is my first write up hope it helps others looking to upgrade their door speakers and keep it looking stock. So the whole project turned out to be a mess because my stereo stopped working and I traced it to a wiring issue for the speakers, as I found the problem I noticed that all the wiring was hacked by the previous owner so I ended up rewiring the whole audio system and decided to change all the speakers, deck and add amps. The whole project took about 10-12 hours.

Tools:
8mm socket
philips screwdriver
T10 torx bit
saw (I used an air saw)
1/8 drill bit and drill
riviter

Supplies:
roll of 6mm 2 sided foam tape
8 1/8 rivits
new speakers
clean rag
Cleaning solution (brake cleaner, thinner)

1: Remove the speaker screen by unscrewing the two screws at the bottom and slide screen down and out

2: Remove the 4 8mm nuts holding the speaker housing to the door and carefully remove the housing, once removed be mindful of the speaker plug and separate the plug.

3: Unscrew the four screw holding the speaker to the housing

4: flip the housing over and remove the 10 T10 Torx screws

5: peel the padding off to uncover a philips screw and remove the screw

6: separate the back side of the housing from the front

7: With a flat screwdriver remove the plug by prying up

8: Cut the wires so to remove the speaker from the housing

9: Clean the edge with a good strong cleaner, I first used brake cleaner and went over it with thinner

10: place the 2 sided foam tape on the inner edge to help mount the (usually supplied) speaker mounting ring

11: place the speaker mounting ring on the housing

12: Drill 4 1/8 holes on the outer edge of the ring to rivet the ring to the housing (sorry forgot to take pics of this step)

13: install speaker and bolt it up

14: This step may of may not apply depending on if the speakers have a crossover. Use two way tape as shown and stick the crossover in the housing

15: If the back side of the housing doesn't fit you will need to cut and trim the back side of the housing to make it fit as shown

16: Once the back half fits properly bolt it back up using the T10 torx bits

17: on the wires sticking out use whichever method to connect it to the harness (eg. reuse the stock plug, using bullet connectors, blade connectors or wiring it directly to the harness)

18: install the housing and put the cover back on

Nicely done. It's a good thing you didn't cut the blue wire in photo 8; that would have set it off!

Thanks , ya that blue wire is a tricky one, I was sweating buckets hoping it wouldn't blow up!
