This message is for all of those people
interested in installing the cd changer to
their car stereos. I purchased a new 1999
C230 and bought the Becker Silverstone 2662.
I installed it myself almost a year ago and
to this day have not had any problems. I read every internet article I could find
about potential problems and about having to
have it reprogrammed by a MBZ dealer for
the radio to recognize the changer. It is
simply not true. It's an easy 5 minute install!! Anyone can do it. Check out beckerautosound.com for pictures on installing it yourself.

I have installed many with no problems as well. The ones that are giving the problems with programing are the integrated controls such as the 2000 M and S.

Are you using a fiber optic adapter so that the controls on the radio can communicate with the CD changer. It was always my understanding that the changer would not interface with the radio without it.

You have to use an adapter cable that is supplied with the cd changer. You start by
finding the cars fiber optic cable in the trunk. Pry open the black casing to expose the two fiber optic cables. These cables plug directly into the adapter. Plug the adapter into the cd changer, attach the power lead, mount the changer, you're done!!
No programming or fiddling with the head unit
is required. It recognizes the cd changer instantly!
