Hello, I am considering upgrading the speaker system in my 1987 560SEL. I have two POLK DX12's in the trunk and they sound great. My problem is that the factory speaker location stinks. I am considering upgrading to the Boston Pro Series 6.53 system which consists of a 6 1/2" bass speaker, 4" midrange and 1" tweeter. Does anybody know if there is enough depth for a 6 1/2 in the door? I would like to put it in the space below the handle and above the "pocket". If not, what about putting the 6 1/2 in the pocket and sealing the area around it, any suggestions??

at one point i had 8's in my back doors (w123). You should be ok for the 6.5's, but to make sure take off your door panel and take a long look at the place you're putting the speaker in. Your main problem will be the window, check to see if the depth is ok - otherwise just make an mdf spacer to mount the speaker on.

by the way, did you use any special methods to get more bass from the trunk into the cabin? I'm just porting through the first aid space right now...

------------------
81 280e
16" 8-holes
clear indicators, new exhaust/intake

stereo -
jvc head unit
6 infinity kappa coax's
aura mr675h 90x6
2 aura mr475's, 200x2 each
2 audiobahn aw1200s in a ported box
1f cap

not bad for a car older than me, huh

I removed the first aid tray, similar to what you've done, I'm sure. Works pretty well and didn't cause any permanent change to the car.
