OK.. i freed up the broken CD-cassette adapter. I came bac to the car after school... tapped the top with a butter knife and it somehow ejected.

Im still interested in getting rid of the POS. I would appreciate knowing how to get into the screws so i can unscrew the whole face out.

Radio Removal!

In my 87SDL you remove the ash tray - the actual chrome ashpan insert , then two screws below allow you to remove the rest of the asytray/cigarlighter apparatus, I think then two spring clips are exposed that you need to push down/inward releasing the radio. I was able to reach my fingers into the cassette slot and pull my radio free without knowing about the spring clips.

Your radio has an anti-theft feature that disables it if it is removed improperly. You must shut the vehicle down with the Valet Key not the Master Key with the red dot. Shuting the car down with the master key arms the anti-theft mode, you don't want this feature armed! Then you can pull the radio out and disconnect the power, speaker, and antenna wires at the back. If you inadvertantly activate the anti-theft mode and decide to reinstall your stock radio you can get the nessessary reactivation code (four digits) either from you cars info package in the glove box or you can supposedly get it with the appropriate proof of ownership from a dealership or eventually from MBUSA. You are supposed to be able to get it from Beckker but for a fee! Good Luck!;)

Damn that's a good writeup and pics, I should have looked for that before I did mine, But mine came out pretty easy without the little wire tools and my faceplate did not come off ??

billybob... when I take it out, I see an "SRS" grey box down there. Im thinking thats Air-bag related. Plus, I only have one master key. No valet key or anything else :( Guess I have to go to a dealer and get keys aswell.

ARS?

Yes in mine also, that box mounted to the tranny hump appears to be the force cell for the air bag. I didn't need to touch mine but I know that there is an ARS unit behind the passenger side kick board under the dash where ther is a "magic" box with two red connectors that can be unplugged if you want to disable the ARS when screwing around in the area. I had disconnected my battery as I always do so as to prevent any electical mishaps.

You can get the keys if you want but I believe they can be fairly expensive - $40-$50 but probably a worthwhile insurance investment if you only have a single key now! I've got both original masters for mine and no valet so I will be getting my radio reactivation code from the dealer or MBUSA. I will probably use MBUSA and I hope to combine it with my request for all the information that they will provide for an individual vehicle. I understand that they will provide you with copies of your vehicle's build sheet, original invoice and the like (the radio code is supposed to be somewhere within the build sheet). I have read that they will even provide a replacement winshield sticker if you ask!
;)
