I have a '94 SL320 and the sound from the left side is very scratchy 'though only on the radio NOT the tape deck. I sent the radio to NJ for repairs and I believe they sent me a replacement because the radio code was different on the replacement. There was no sound difference between the 2 radios. I checked with both a radio shop and local MB repair shop and the both said it is not likely to be the speakers. The NJ shop now has both my replacement radio and the Bose amplifier and says there is no issue with either of them. Is it time to pull the door panels and check the speakers? Is there an easier way that pulling the door panels?
