What goes up doesn't necessarily come down in a 123 Hirschmann

I have an '83 300D turbo that's new to me. I removed the Hirshmann antenna and took it apart for cleaning. When I apply power to the two motor leads, it raises or lowers the antenna just fine depending on the polarity I apply.

When I apply power to the pin connector (6-pin connector) the mast goes up but it won't come back down. Further, the copper tab bashes into the pot metal which supports the copper spring for the black plastic point selector device.

There are obviously several combinations of breaker points that are possible. Does anyone know which combination of points controls "down?"

Or, am I barking at the moon here and should just face the facts and replace the whole kit and kaboodle?

Thanks!
