What might be causing amp to enter safety mode?

Hi,
My Alpine amp enters safety mode after 15mins or so of play. It remains powered, but produces no sound.
Any ideas as to what I should be looking at to diagnose cause?
Thanks
farrukh

Ther are a couple of things that can trigger protection. #1 speaker shorts (there can be a dynamic short which is more difficult to test) #2 The input to the amp/source can trigger the protection for excess current on the input lines.
What is your system configuration? it is a little hard to give info if you do elaberate on what equiptment you have in the system. model #s etc..............Deck amp speakers etc..

If it does it after 15 minutes, yes, it probably is heat. Since you have the amp mounted in a way as to allow it to cool under normal circumstances, you should look elsewhere. The most likely cause is a low impedance load on the output. What I mean is that the amp is probably designed to handle 4 ohms connected to each output in stereo mode. If you have a 2 ohm load connected to the output in stereo mode, it will play, but it will overstress the amplifier. Can you tell us more about what you have connected to the amp and how it is connected?
