W123 Built-in fader wiring?

I opened up my console today and found out that the fader has 6 cables. I thought.. simple!

2 for front,
2 for rear, and 2 input (from the deck).

Am I right to assume that the green cables are the ones from the head unit?

Thanks

Did you ever figure it out?

I'm trying to bypass the fader on my '81 300TD and I've lost my rear speakers!?

Ive got six wires !!

im trying to figure out the car audio mess in my 84 300d. I will be getting new speakers along with a new HU, and need to rewire this mess. Ive got the fader pulled and see six wires coming from it. The wiring harness at the HU has only 2 speakers wired into it instead of 4. Holson, i know its been several years, did you ever figure this out? What is the correct way to bypass the fader and wire the speakers correctly? Im thinking i should leave it all in there and run completely new wires from the speakers directly into the wiring harness.

The best advice when putting a modern new head unit in an older vehicle is to re-wire everything. New HU's require more current and put out more power, hence the need for heavier guage wires. New HU's are NOT compatible with speaker systems which use external faders or have one lead of the speakers grounded. New HU's require a keep alive power connection to preserve memory and clock settings. If it's a DIY job, check the manual which comes with the new unit and it should have all the info you'll need. Good Luck.

Hi Holson Adi.

Unless you're planning on keeping the stock HU,
I would bypass it and as suggested before
to rewire the whole system.

Louis.

I believe you've got 2 for the fronts and 2 for the backs, all hot, and 2 for ground at the fader. As noted, your best bet is to run wiring yourself from the HU to the speakers. If you have a Becker Grand Prix (or a Becker with similar connector) here's the pinout for the 4-pin connector on the back: http://home.comcast.net/~aszablowski/beckerconnector.jpg

I finished wiring in my eclipse cd3413 and speakers. Im very happy that i re-wired the system because the PO really "frankensteined" the poor thing.

Which is another reason for wiring it yourself. Some people simply do NOT know how to crimp, solder, etc., connections properly or think they understand electricity. Do it yourself and at least you'll know where the wires are going and how well the connections were done. If you really don't know what you're doing then take it to a stereo shop. I hate to prescribe Circuit City chain type stores because I've rarely seen good jobs done by their so-called "pro installers". OK, slight rant mode off.

Question IBE300D question

I just e-mailed you. I just had an Eclipse 3413 installed in my 300D.

Looking for an operation manual.

4-20-04 Just managed to get a copy. Thanks anyway.

This is a very nice HU. I like the looks better than Alpine.

Thanks
