'1998 C280 radio squawk in wet weather
Hello, lurker needs a bit of advice. The wife has had two '98 C280s, still has the second. In both of them during infrequent very wet weather, the radio will occasionally SQUAWK at max volume for a few seconds then return to pretty much normal behavior. There is no particular thing that sets off the squawk, just driving down the road in the wet and SQUAWK.
Anyone got a suggestion? If there were an external antenna it could be leaking at the base and causing a short, but no such antenna, so .... what? Local dealer service guys are worse than useless and I don't ask them anything. I have done and hope to do all my own work with a little help from friends and forum. The current car has only 35kmiles and nothing substantial has yet (knock wood) gone wrong. TIA |

Just to have a wild guess, I think these cars have road speed volume increase ( or what ever it is being called ) I'd watch the speedo and see if it spikes. If not, perhaps monitoring / removing the speed + volume wire from the radio plug and see if it goes away.
The wet road issue makes me think wheel speed sensor wire / plug issue. |
