fader control

The fader in a 1982 300D turbodiesel sedan has six wires connected to it: one red, one green, two red-black and two green-black. Where does each one come from and go to?

Thanks in advance for any information.

just a guess

My guess is that red and green are the left and right signals from the head. The fader may be a dual ganged potentiometer with the Left and Right (red and green) wires hooked to the wipers. The other wires go to the front and rear, left and right speakers. Just a guess, I do not have the schematic yet. Mine was unplugged and now my speakers work, but poorly :-)
