Repost! Alpine changer install in R129

Hi All-

Does anyone know how to install an Alpine cd changer in a 1992 500SL? I have purchased the 3 components/wires from Mercedes and the PIE adaptor for Mercedes/Alpine. When I took it to the Alpine dealer they told me it would take 2 hours and was not a "plug & play" install.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks so much guys & gals!

i myself have never seen the connections for that setup. does the 500sl have the split 1432 setup? maybe Scott can help you out with that one..

Thanks Joe. Yes it does have the 1432 split set up with the wiring behind the trunk trim on the driver's side.

here is a pic of your changer hook-up
If you unplug the round male din connector on the 1432 tuner box and plug it into the blue female din connector in the pic and then plug the blue male connector into the 1432 tuner box in the same spot as the the one you removed. Then it is pretty straight forward the 4 pin female power connector comes out of the tuner box and plugs into the male PIE blue connector and the female blue 4 pin connector plugs into the 1432 tuner box. Then the single 8 pin female din at the bottom of the pic plugs into the alpine cd changers 8 pin male din. Good luck!

Scott-

Thanks so very much for your reply. I wish your company was closer, I have you install in a heartbeat!

I'll take it by the Car Stereo place within the next few days and give them your post.

This is a birthday present to myself. Thanks for your gift!!!!!

This thread needs to be archived. This is the first time I've seen all the connections explained for this hookup. Not that I would ever do it, the $$$ just don't make sense, unless you absolutely have to have a stock Becker 1432 as your headunit...

Your welcome Scott, happy birthday! Just so you know I had this all laid out in word with arrows etc.... but I couldn't figure out how to convert it to post it! Anyways I hope it clarifies the install for you and others!
