77 240D modifications dash speakers, Zebra-wood grills, sub woofer, rear 6 x 9s
Decided to replace the Becker stereo with a better sound system without jeopardizing too much of the Mercedes Character.
Here is the speaker plan. DASH Installed 4" MB Quartz speakers driven straight off the head. Modified grille covers with 1/4" slices of 1 1/2"ABS pipe for tweeter room. cut circles into grilles with a fine coping saw blade, used Gelled Super Glue to bond ABS rings to non ABS grilles. REAR DECK MB Quartz Onyx 6 x 9s Driven by 1500w amp. In order to "flush mount" Holes were cut through metal deck , rear of speaker vented through a baffle box set in trunk area then returns through middle vent back into cab (not designed to thump the neighborhood only to improve base quality in cab area) REAR SEAT SUB MB Quartz MONO 10" square sub woofer Internal seat was converted into a hidden vented baffle enclosure. Removed arm rest for speaker space. (also not designed to thump the neighbors, but if I ever wanted to thump the neighbors I could just by rolling the windows down) Driven by 2500w mono amp Sub amp level control is mounted under custom made center console cover. |

Nice work! I can't make it out - do the pic tubes match the dash color?

Thank you!
The tweeter rings cut from black ABS are a higher gloss than grill covers, so I just dulled them down with 320 and 600 sandpaper. |
