Removing Radio from '90 300SE
First the sob story--at the end is the question
Had my alternator replaced, and in the process the battery was disconnected, killing my radio until I enter the code # (which I don't know). Called 2 local reputable dealers, both said the VIN number is not enough for this year and model--need the radio serial number. Dealer #1 says, "Come on in, buy the special radio keys ($3.50) and we'll show you how to take it out." Great! I get down there, buy the keys, and the service guy says, "Keys don't work on this year model--you'll have to bring it in so we can disassemble your vehicle piece by piece to get the serial number...better get a home equity loan to pay for it" (OK, I'm exaggerating--but disassembly is not a 5 minute task...) Here's the question: How can I get the radio our myself to look at the serial number, in order to save the 2 hour trip and $45 labor charge? Thanks... |

HI Jeff
You should be able to get the radio code by the VIN, I don't know why they are telling you they can't. Rarely do I have to pull a radio to get the serial number so they can get the code. Having said that. Remove your ash tray then the 2 screws holding the ash tray frame in and pull the frame out. Then just push down on the 2 clips at the bottom of the radio and pull the radio out. That's it! Good luck. fasthair |
