Front door speakers??

My car (1993 190E) has these speakers on the two front doors. What are these? Are they subwoofers? I know they are supposed to be for bass, but they really aren't very good.

Can I put a better set of bass speakers in here, or should I just get rid of these when I upgrade the other factory speakers?

How do I get the grill off so I can see the speakers?

Thanks,

Kane

they are door subs, and have been factory capped off with coils/capacitors to remove all voice and high frequencies.

I believe they are 2 ohm speakers.

I removed the sub caps from mine, I had to take them out, open the housing, remove them, solder on new leads, and then silicone them to seal the housings and screw the screws in to tighten them down.

I then wired in some crossovers to those with some tweeters I mounted int he dash under the grills, and voila, much better sound from them, because they have voice coming through them.

I have since added a 5.25" infinity speaker in the rear with crossovers and have yet to mount the tweeters. Rear sound is greatly improved. I had to modify the stock speaker baskets, good ol griner helped that, then I lined them with some foam wether stripping and fit the speakers in. Voila. perfect fit now, and no vibrations of plastic or anything.

I also leftt he factory tweeters in the rear hooked up, but will most likely disconnect them once I install the infinity tweeters to complete the ocmponent set.

Once I get my hands on another set of infinity seperates in 6.5" size, I'll mount those in the doors in place of the factory speaker. I will also disconnect the old dash speakers themselves, and just leave the tweeters hooked up.

I can then hook up the dash speakers again later if I so please.

I have a 300CE, but the speaker layout should be similar.
