Upgraded my dash speakers today...4" Morels in a 1990 300D
I was hoping I could find a decent 5-1/4 coax that would fit (I managed to fit MB Quart 215.62 components in the dash locations of a previous W124 way back around 1996).
No luck today though, so I had to pick from the 4" list. I had it down to Morels or DLS. Morels were rated to 75hz vs 100hz for the DLS, so Morels it was. I ended up with Morel Maximo Ultra 402's. Maximo is Morel's entry level line, Ultra is the improved version with a better tweeter and crossover network. Entry level, but not inexpensive at $150. Even at that price I wasnt expecting too much given they were 4 inchers. But I was pleasantly surprised! You can tell you are on small speakers on bass heavy music, but they still deliver the experience adequately. On most any other genre, they can pass for bigger speakers! They have really great range for their size, and the mids and highs are classic Morel...laid back but beautifully clear and detailed. And all this powered off the head unit (Alpine 163 EBT). In contrast the PO installed Pioneer 4" coaxials were simply outclassed. Harsh, tinny, muffled and nasal in comparison. The Morels are probably twice the price though. If you are looking for dash speakers for your w124, I highly recommend these. |

I've seen these around but never got to hear them yet. Will see if I can check them out when I go sub shopping.
