W210 Amplifier missing?
I have a Mercedes 1996 300 Diesel (W210 model). My car has the stock Becker radio and I noticed that my amp is missing from the driver side trunk (purchased car used). The connector on my car seems different than the usual connector for a MB amp. My connector is more like a printer connector with round holes and a screw on each ends.
Do you know the correct amp part # for my car? Both of my rear deck speakers are not working so I believe it may be because the amp is missing? Maybe, the car never had an amp from the factory? Thanks for the guidance and I want to obtain to buy from you the correct amp. Best Regards, Louis |

I checked in trunk behind carpet cover on both sides of car and I could not find the amplifier. Could it be located somewhere else?

I still can't find the amp in the trunk. Is it possible that the Becker stock radio function without an amp? Is that why the rear deck speakers don't work?

Thanks. My car has 8 speakers and just the 2 rear deck speakers are not working. I just had the Becker head unit rebuild thinking it would fix the rear deck speaker issue but it did not help.
The car has no amp or wiring for an amp. Any recommendation on what to check? Thanks. |

Check the speakers. Use a AA battery as a power source and scratch the leads across the battery terminals. You should hear the speakers crackle as you do. No crackling = dead speaker. A AA battery doesn't have enough energy to damage the speaker, but will make it make noise.

I was told by an audio expert that knows Mercedes that my car didn't have an amplifier since it was an option at the time of purchase.
Is that correct? Why would Mercedes have deck speakers installed and wired with no amplifier to power them? |
