MB Quarts or Kappa?
Id like to know if infinity kappas are a lot better than quarts. i know that quarts are not as good as kappas, but i have heard from many sources that they will fit much easier. I have it narrowed down to these two speakers for my 124 model benz. Any input will be good. I can get them for close to the same price, so price isnt a gigantic issue.
Thanks Ged |
Quartz usually have brighter sounding tweeters from my experience. Both are very good qality,a nd I would be pleased with either.

Infinity may have improved things in the last decade or so, but back then, their tweeter technology was less efficient than their counterparts...in other words, you needed more than average power to get the tweets to play as loud as other brands using far less amp power...
Just my 2 cents... |
Mb quart Q series are much better speakers than the kappas in every way. Just look at what the pros use to win in sound quality, 9 times out of ten its Mb Quart. Ive had kappa 6x9's and my quarts are much better sounding. But then you factor in the price... so how much is the better sound quality worth to ya.

not to try to confuse you even more, but the quart line has the following series of speakers that vary in sound quality:
DKC DKD DTC DSD DSC RKC RSC RSD PSD QSD QM The DKC and DKD are not very appealing to me as they use the cheapest tweeter in the lineup (.5" titanium dome that is not tame). You better have a good EQ setup to these, or, you might actually like the sound if your not picky. So if some salesman says "mb quarts are better than kicker speakers or XYZ speaker" is kind of confusing since what model is he using as a baseline for comparison? I love the RSD series though they are expensive(good midrange, tweeter is pretty tame for a titanium and has a good crossover on it, etc.). If you want to compare the cheap DKD series to infinity kappa 52.5i coax's then that's fair since they are the closest in price. So to get to the point, I too think quarts are better sounding to MY ear. If the ones you can get are cheap and you can't listen to them before hand, get them and try them out and then you can sell them later if you don't like them. Since you have a 124 like me, what models/sizes are you planning on putting in? I have been doing lots of homework on the dash speakers and finding speakers to fit in that location is a little bit of a challenge since i'm not willing cut metal. thx.. |
a 300e... and why be afraid of a little mettelwerk?
:) ged |
No, I meant what model of speakers, not what model car. The metal that needs to be cut is not really thin. I am not afraid of cutting as I will be cutting my rear deck when I do a sub.

I did not have to cut my rear deck at all to fit my infinity 5.25" component speakers.
I took the old speakers out of the factory plastic basket. I ground it out to fit the infinity speakers. I lined it with foam weatherstripping. I drille holes for the infinity speakers to be screwed down with in the plastic basket. I did have to remove the speaker connectors off the speakers and wire up direct to the speaker lines off the speaker, this was easily done, and I secured the wire and shrink wrapped it to keep it from touching and or pulling out. Then I took the factory baskets, popped them back in, and hooked up my speaker wire. IT required no metal cutting. If I had left the speaker connector on, I would have had to cut the metal a little for them to fit right. But my method worked like a charm, and sound is excellent from those rear speakers. I mounted the tweeters on the rear deck, and they sound good to me. I will be adding a set of 6.5" infinity seperates to the front doors in the factory location for the speaker, and will mount the tweeters either on the door panels, or on the pillars. I have tweeters mounted under the dash grills, along with the factory dash speakers wired up with capacitors to take out all low frequencies. I also for now have the subwoofer caps off the door speakers and wired in a crossover instead, making the door speakers more of a midrange. Sound is much better than before when they were door subs. My 10" sub is in a sealed box that is ported through the first aid kit. Sounds damn good just like it is for me. Later I'll add a new amp to power the interior speakers. Alon |
