Upgrading my audio in 86 420
 

I want to replace the factory radio with a Sony, but have no clue how to get thing out.

I also currently have what I think is called alternator whine. Would this be resolved with a new stereo?

Of course, the speakers have got to go as well, but I have no idea what size the dash speakers are or the rear speakers. The chain folks can't give me the same answer. Some even try to tell me (based on what their computer says), that I don't have rear speakers!!

Is this something I could trust to the folks at Best Buy or Circuit City?

Anyone have success putting speakers in the door? Would like to install woofers or three-way.

How about tweeters in the A-Pillars?

Finally, I'm not interested in big booming bass, so I have no interest in an enclosed box. Has anyone used those Bazooka bass tubes. I guess I would consider using an enclosure if it could be installed without taking up much space.

The dash will take a 4x6 inch speaker and the rear deck can handle a 6" speaker 2 or 3 way in the factory mounting frame wiith a little mod to the frame. The doors are a 6.5" woofer if you have them and there are few 6.5" subs that will make any improvements to your sound, I would suggest a subwoofer in the trunk or rear deck would work a lot better than the doors. As far as your radio coming out it is easy, you jaust take out the ashtray liner and remove the 2 screws underneath then remove the complete tray by sliding it out of the dash then pull down on the two clips on the bottom of the radio to release it from the dash and slide the radio out. As far as the noise once you remove the stock radio and install the new radio then the noise should dissapear. Your dash can be fixed 2 ways #1 and the best and most expensive is to purchase a new dash pad from MBZ #2 There are companies that sell a dash cap cover made of textured plastic that can be color matched and installed over your original dash pad.
