450sl no stations on radio

I installed a radio and speakers, they sound great. The problem I ran into is the antenna (manual) was broken between mast and radio plug. I removed kick panel etc. but can't get to antenna mast unless I remove the parking brake. I don't want to attempt this as the manual says to raise car ,dissconnect exhaust, remove parking brake. I connected a stick on windshield antenna but I can only get one radio station. Is there any advice out there? thanks.

The parking brake only has to be lossened if you are needing to get the factory power antenna out. If all you need to do is replace a manual antenna then it can be accomplished by removing the plastic access cover behind the kickpanel. This is a bit difficult but it can be done with the right tools. You will need a couple different size phillips head screwdrivers to get to all of the screws@ 7 of them. If you are replacing the manual antenna with a manual antenna the you might be able to do it without completely removing the cover (just the lower screws) I hope this helps! Tell yourself you can do it and you will!

Scott is a genius. I tried it again and I removed the old antenna.
It was the original Hirschman automatic and I didn"t remove the parking brake. I had to do a lot of fiddling but it"s done. I replaced it with a manual antenna . The FM reception is fine but there is no AM reception. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
