Install CD Changer myself??
I have a 1998 SLK230 prewired for a cd changer. Just bought a CD Changer for it and I'm wondering if I should have it installed or could I do it myself. From what I've read, it looks like it just needs to be plugged into the cable in the back of the truck. But what about mounting? Are there predrilled holes or do I have to drill? Where should it be mounted? Does the battery need to be disconnected before I do any of this? Or should I just leave it up to someone who knows what they're doing and pay for install?
Thanks! |

if you have the mounting braket, you may need to screw it in. other than that, it shouldn't be anything more than a simple drill and thats it.
The car should have the cable in the trunk, it is probably on the left side opposite the battery Alon

well I am not sure as I haven't seen the SLK trunk, but In my fathers SL600 it is mounted on the left side of his trunk in a horizontal mounting I believe.
I would wait on scott form lajolla audio to respond. he is the pro. Alon

It almost sounds like you have bought only the changer itself. There is also an installation kit for the SLK that you need, it may make more sense to you then. The bracket installs in the right (passengers side) of the trunk. There are push-in fasteners that hold the trunk trim in place, 3 of these are removed and a different type of fastener installed in the holes these were in to install the bracket for the changer. There are 2 different type of cables that are installed to the changer depending on the production date. The early style is a "plug and play" type unit and the later ones are fiber optic. On a 98 I believe you could have either, it changed during the model year. If you take of the small plastic access door in the right side of the trunk you can look for the harness and find which one you have.
