Question 95 E-Class Factory Harness Questions

Hey guys!

I'm installing a new Alpine CDA-7892 in my Benz because some jackass decided he needed my previous Alpine more than I did. I have to put in a new wiring harness for the deck and have never done this before (being cheap this time and saving the $45 installation cost). I have a multi-meter to help figure out what wire goes to what but would love it if someone had the schematics that could tell me with out doing this. Mine is a '95 E300 so I don't have the fader from hell that everyone has to mess with.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Munsey

ok simple to figure out.

you have 4 main wires...

1. Ignition power
2. constant power
3. ground
4. antenna trigger
5. antenna cable itself.

6. speakers.

With a multimeter, test for a constant power wire that is always on.

Test for a wire that has power when the ignition is on.

for ground, its the brown wire usually, and for the antenna trigger I believe its blue/white usually.

If you need any assistance, feel free to contact me on AIM or e-mail. - the info is in my profile.

Thanks

Thanks Alon. I'll work on it tonight and let you know how it goes. By the way, has your Dad's SL come in yet? You've had it in the coming soon category for a while now. Love to know what he thinks.

That's cool.

I installed the stereo last night with the help of my cousin (he used to work for a custom stereo shop in Philly). The process was pretty cool. We used a 9v batter and speaker wire to figure out the speaker positions and the multi-meter to figure out the rest. I've built tons of computers and set up networks but had never used a multi-meter and don't know jack about electricity. Kind of a fun experience. Anyway, the shop that had installed the prior HU ran separate speaker wires from the door subs. I'm not sure why since there's no fader to by-pass, but they did. My cousin decided the best way to run the fronts and doors was in series. He had to explain it to me about three times before I could grasp the concept. Once I did, it made sense. Is that how you've run yours?

On a side note, I love the CDA-7892. Great features for a fair price. However, I found a used Blaupunkt Toronto on eBay: Blaupunkt Toronto

Have you had any experience with this deck? I realize that it's not as good as the Alpine, but it is clean and will be a lot less money. Then I could buy an amp and Sub.

mine runs to amps and the speakers go tot he amps, so I don't have the fader in my car hooked up, or the radio's built in amp hooked up.

As I said, its not hard, you just have to know how to find the wires.

Gotcha. Any thoughts on the Blaupunkt I mentioned?

I've never used the Toronto, but I have installed after-market blaupunkts in my last three cars (Benz, Audi, Benz) and I have never been disappointed in the slightest with their performance. Plus, I think they have one of the cleanest looks around, none of the multi-color flashing light stuff you see on so many other decks. I would recomment it based on the Blaupunkt name.
