Alpine CD/MP3 PLayer CDA-7894 & static

Hello,

I recently purchased an Alpine CDA-7894 CD/MP3 player for my '87 300D. I upgraded the speakers to the Rainbow's from La Jolla. The fader is bypassed, and I ran new wire to the front speakers.

With the radio, at low volume, I have NO static.
As soon as I select the CD player, I have scratchy-static noisy at low volume.

This is with the engine off or on, power from factory harness or straight off battery (both +/- with #10/#8 wire). Between tracks there is no static. Tried using external Alpine amp, same static. Fade from front to back, doesn't matter, its in all speakers. If I fade all the way to rear, I still hear the bit of static in the front speakers.

Any ideas?

The vendor sent me a second unit, but both function the same. Am I being too particular, or should I expect static at low volume?

I wish to use the units internal amplification, not an external amp.

Thanks,
Brian

Can you try hooking it up on the bench without the car to see if you hear the same sound? You don't hear the static sound on the radio at all? I haven't had a problem yet with that alpine unit but it sounds like a problem with the radio. If you don't get an answer ther try calling alpine tech support @ 800 tech 101 if you dont have any luck give us a call @ 8004676545.

Scott,

I called Alpine and they said they are aware of a problem with noise on the CDA-7894, but that was usually with the car running. A certain component on the board needed to be repositioned. They said there the procedure has not been released for the repair center yet, and that I should send unit directly to Alpine Technical Support in Torrance.

Thanks,
Brian

I am glad that you found out the problem. I was going to call them today myself.
