Question Replacing Amplifier in '95 E320 (W124)

I have replaced the rear speakers with 4-ohmers, and figure I could improve the sound by dumping the factory amp and replacing it with an aftermarket one.

Can I just swap out the existing amp (is it in the trunk, right side?) ? Do I need to use speaker level inputs? Any other experiences there?

I still have the stock head unit.

Thanks,
Tom
