My radio was removed and now when it is reinstalled it only has dashes across the screen. The handbook says only that this means the radio is automatically rendered inop. How or what do I have to do to reverse this?

To the best of my knowledge, you have to enter in a code to 'unlock' your radio. The dealer who originally sold the car should have record of the unlock code. They'll need the VIN number at minimum. You may be able to contact MBUSA or your local MB dealer and they can give you more specific information.

Actually, I believe that any dealer can access your radio code. I got mine at the closests one - not the original. It takes about 10 min and is free (or at least was for me).

Take it to any MB dealer, they have to hook it up to a special machine to unscramble it. It should only take a couple seconds, and it "should" be no charge. If it wanted a code it would say "code" across the face instead of the dashes. The later model cars have the code, you got "lucky/unlucky" with the dashes
Good luck!! Paula [This message has been edited by PAULA NORMAN (edited 06-15-99).] |
