Radio Antenna

The radio antenna on my '95 C280 will not go up anymore. For a while it was intermittent. Sometimes it would go up and stay up for a few days and then it would deside to go down. Now it has been down for quite some time and it is not going up. I would like to know if there is any way to trouble shoot this problem.

the mast and the whole antanna assembly hides behind the plastic panel inside the towards the rear of the trunk, on either left or right. Probably on the driver side of the rear panel, if memory serves. Just pry open the panel, and you'll see all the antenna stuff. As far as possible cause of ur problem... it's really hard to tell where it originates from. But the easiest way to solve ur problem would be to replace part or the whole antenna mast or the black box that contains the gears and mast. The black box will cost you a pretty penny. Replacing the mast is easier and cheaper. You might want to just remove the whole assembly and put it back again. It could easily be a lose ground wire or connector that's causing ur antenna trouble.

good luck!

The problem is probably internal in the control cicuit. There are a couple of things to test #1 does it make any noise when you turn it on? If it makes a grinding noise then it could be the gears or a broken tensioner spring stop. #2 If it flat out doesn't do anything then the control board is probably the problem. E mail cleeve @ www.lajollaaudiorepair.com and he can assist you.
