Tape to CD stereo conversion on '84 300SD

Greetings Audio Buffs,

Just wondering where I can get a cd installation kit to fit my year and model so I can do the switch to a cd stereo. Also wondering if there is an electrical conversion kit as well, or do I end up cutting all the wires to make this conversion happen?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Charles

No kit exists, as far as I know. You'll just have to splice the wires. Wiring code:

Ground - Brown
12v switched - Black w/yellow
Illumination - Grey w/violet
12v constant - Red

My CD deck just slid in in place of the old stereo. Someone else had already sliced-n-diced the wiring for me. But most decent stereo shops will have a wiring adapter catalog. They should be able to find one for you if one exists.
One word of warning. The factory front-rear balance knob doesn't seem to like decks with higher power. Mine is only 20watts per cahnnel, and the knob gets rather warm if I listen at high volume levels, and it's starting to jam and not work real well. I need to tear back into it and bypass it, and use the decks system for front and rear. As it is now, there is only one set of wires, right and left, coming up to the deck in the cars wiring harness. I'll have to take more of the center console apart and splice into the individual front and rear wiring at the balance knob, and run that up to the deck.

Have your Mercedes dealer show you the MB Single CD Receiver, part # Q 6 82 0410. With adapter cable Q 6 82 0411 it should be a plug-in installation. Look up front view at www.beckerautosound.com/4602small.jpg
