R129 Replacement speakers

I need to replace the door panel speakers on my 1992 500Sl R129. Any suggestions on what models are good? The originals were kinda flat. Are the door panels easy to remove without any special MB tools or do I need to get prof. installation?

The door panels come of with common tools but there aren't any direct drop in speakers to replace yours. It will take some work as the woofer is not standard size. Are you planning on adding some new/more amplification? This is one of the weak spots of the stock system. I wouls recommend a professional installation because it can get complicated if you don't have a lot of experience with car audio.

I'm not planning on adding more modifications to the system. I started to notice a crackling sound on one of the smaller speakers. So I figured it is time to replace them. Guess it is time to visit some installers.

Keep us posted on your decision..we ALL suffer from the same inept system. My local installer said he wouldn't touch my SL....says the system is WAY to complicated Hope you find a good replacement and installer!
