Anyone done or seen freeair subs in the first aid / manual compartments of a w126?

My w126 sounds pretty good, but I was considering adding a pair of 8" subs in the two rear cabinets for the first aid kit and the manuals.

Couple of questions.

#1 how will these perform in this car? I just want some added low end, not ear splitting bass, or some boom car you can hear down the block.

#2 will the covers rattle? Also will the allow sound to pass through. I want to keep the appearance of the car as stock as possible, and I thought this might be a good option.

Thanks in advance,

George

done it for W124

I did it to my 260E with 1 10" Soundstream Sub (infinite baffle) and use the stock locations as ports. It's installed from inside, through the trunk, and will put use a linen type screen that'll cover the whole rear so it doesn't show. It's still not hooked up though, but it sounded great in my brother's car who had it in his car, which was not as air-tight as this car. I will be running it at x-over point 160Hz and below.

I'm not sure how 2 12"s would sound, but might not be as tight as 10"s... just my opinion... Hopefully your subs are designed to run in an infinite baffle configuration.

good luck...

Well I dont have the subs yet.....

I'm just considering them as an idea, and thought that mounting location would be ideal. I would use infinite baffle subs, but I'm considering mounting them from the top down in those compartments.

sound...

Oopppss... they're 8" subs... and a pair... I would think they'd sound real tight and fast with the proper amp and x.

Just note that the rear deck has metal underneath that is not exactly parallel (co-planar) with the wood/rug deck.

good luck...

Someone did exactly what your're asking about in my previous car (w126) before I owned it. They removed the entire first aid kit/storage shelf, cut into the sheetmetal underneath to fit the contour of the subs, and at some point (maybe after removing them) covered the whole shelf with a piece of plywood type material covered in red cloth to match the interior. It took me awhile to realize that it wasn't stock.
I benifitted from their installation due to the LARGE (most of the rear shelf) port it created. My 10", bottom of the line, 10 year old Fosgate sub sounded like it was pushing 200w rather than 100.
I'd post pictures, but I no longer own the car.
