in dash cd player for 94 E320
 

I am looking for recommendations on an in dash cd player for our 94 E320. OEM would be nice. I am looking for plug and play or least invasive as possible. I do not really want to cut into any wiring. Links and or prices would be helpful. This will be a christmas present for my wife. She is the daily driver of this car.

I have seen trunk mounted cd changers and that is a last resort at this point. IMHO, they are inconvenient.

The best radio for your requirements is this, let me know if you are interested as I am a dealer for them and have it in stock new! It is a direct plug in..........No wires to cut and splice

Would that thing work for my 1983 300CD?

I have installed a Pioneer CD Player though so I have pretty much lost all the OEM connectors, etc.

If you no longer have the OEM connectors I have one question then. Was the factory fader bypassed when the Pioneer was installed? If yes, then the newer unit will work since it has a built in fader. We have a harness available and a diagram of where the wires go can be provided upon purchase of the unit. As for fitting, it should fit, however the original radio was secured in the dash via clips located on the bottom edges of where the radio goes and the newer radio has clips on the side of the radio. Contact Scott if you are interested in buying one of these radios.

Yeah, I bypassed the fader myself!

one question. Where does the CD go into? Does the face flip down or something?

What is the power output of the unit? RMS

What model Becker's is that? How much?

Does it have a mute function for a cell-phone? How about 4-lineouts and a sub-out? An aux. input (for MP3 or cassette)?

scott that is a nice looking had unit first do u have this in stock and second would it work for my 1993 400e with the oem beker 1432 2 piece system and would i ll be able to do that install

This unit has 15 watts x4 on its outputs and there is a 4 channel RCA line out with and optional plug. It has a phone mute feature and a phone audio input with an optional plug. It controls a becker 6 cd changer that is availiable and doesn't have an aux input but if you get a cd changer it is easy to add an aux input to it. The radio will work in all model cars that have a din opening. Remember the power / speaker harness is an option as it is ready to plug into any mbz from 1994 to 1998 with no additional parts. It doesn't have fiber optics and the cd loads in behind the face as it folds down to load it is also detachable. The am fm cd runs $699.00 + plus any parts needed + s&h. The cd changer is $510.00+ s&h and it includes cables etc..and requires a new changer cable run.

Looks like the Mercedes-branded version of the Becker CDR 220, found here:

I spoke with Stefan of SWSTEREO and he recommends the CDR 210 because the W124's stereo location makes it hard to read the display of the CDR 220.

You may want to consider the "gray-market" Beckers, not officially imported to USA.

I would consider the Becker Mexico CD 4337 (7803 with blue backlight), or if you want a subwoofer out, it would be the Becker Mexico Pro CD 4627 (4625 with blue backlight).

Gray Maket Units Beware!!!
 

Hi All,
Just to let you know, Gray Market units are never a good way to go since thay will not be servicable here in the USA. So even if a unit is made by a big name manufacturer such as Sony or Becker, etc.. does not mean they will service it if it breaks. In most cases you will find that they will NOT service it. Thus, if you are not worried about a radio failure then go ahead and get gray market. You get what you pay for.

If you are looking for something a bit less pricey, I have had great success and been very happy with Blaupunkt receivers. I was able to just plug it right in in my '94 E320 with no problems whatsoever. You'll find that the Blaupunkts are visually very appealing (not flashy with dolphins swimming around or such nonsense) and provide good clean sound at volume. Look into them, as I was able to just plug a Blaupunkt into my Audi A6 when I had that a while ago too....maybe its some sort of German standard, I dunno.

I have model year 2000 Blaupunkt Nevada, and while it integrates well with the W124 wagon (300TE) with very little flash and a pleasant amber dispaly, it doesn't have subwoofer out and it's specs are decent, but not stellar.

I wanted to go to the newer 2001 and 2002 Blaupunkt line, but IMHO, these all have too much flash.

Maybe I'll just go with a Nakamichi, but I'll must the Thummer steering wheel remote control feature!

I am very interested in replacing the becker receiver with an adequate aftermarket unit in our 95 E320.

Can you please tell me which Blaupunkt unit you have, and do you happen to know if it is plug 'n play with the factory CD changer?

Also, did you have to fashion a tool to yank the unit out of the dash via the two slots under the radio?

I don't know whether it is compatible with the stock CD changer, unfortunately.

After looking at Blaupunkt's recent lines, I have to say that they have become the flashy overly showy crap that I was avoiding when I bought the alaska in the first place.

I was able to just slide out the Becker and put in the Blaupunkt, and there is a special tool you use, its pretty common to almost all radios that looks sort of like a "U" and slides into the sides of the receiver and allows you to pull the receiver right out. I know you can get it from your dealer, but they will charge something ridiculous for it, and if you look around I'm sure you will find them somewhere for cheap.

Good luck finding a good unit -- if you can find an alaska somewhere for cheap since its such an old model year, I would highly recommend it, I had planned on replacing the speakers in the car, but once I heard them with a good receiver they were well up to standards. I'm not encouraged by Blaupunkt's decision to go all flashy, if I can't count on subtle German understatement, I don't know what I'll do with my life.
