Hi Cleeve. Since I have the CD changer in the trunk of my car ('95 E-320), is possible to use the changer cables on my unit? If so, is it only available in either XM or Sirius?

Thanks for the adivice!

ok I got XM and it's the shiet! No sirius for me for two reasons: #1 uncertain future, although it's backed up by major corps. And #2, the programming doesnt fit my taste

W/ that said I got a 7894 Alpine mp3/xm player w/ xm tuner, and i love it! I dont listen to CDs or radio anymore sinc ei got XM!

Sirrius/XM

Just an opinion, I have had XM radio since about june 02. I find XM a little more like "radio" in the sense that there is a little talking. Seems to be more variety of programming. As far as financial problems, sounds far fetched to me. XM has 3 times the subscriber base as Sirrius. I am sure which ever you choose you will be happy, Sat. radio is so far above everything else it's amazing. But I would recommend XM for the human factor. After all if you wanted to listen to non-stop music for hours on end, just plug in a 12 cd changer.

C Holmes,

Thanks for the advice. As it is, I purchased XM about a month ago (Merry Christmas to me!). I talked to a producer I know that works for XM and she assured me that they're not going anywhere as there's been too much money put into the company for the investors to give up now.

Like you I think I'll appreciate having a human voice every now and then to make me feel like there's someone actually out there.

I haven't installed the unit yet because I'm going to ship it and the hardware out to La Jolla Audio to have it hardwired to the head unit so that I'll have TRUE CD quality sound rather than really good FM reception. Can't wait to listen to it!

XM sound choice

Hi all,
It looks like my opinion was not far off how more people feel. Some talk is good and sometimes needed. If you want to know more of what I covered just look back on the responces here.

This is getting like a Beta, VHS debate around here. Fact is Sirius and XM are two very different services. I still like my Sirius for its 100% commercial free music and wouldn't pay for rebroadcast FM on XM. Anyone in America can hear what XM's first 5 channels provide on there local Clear Channel station (same music and even the same DJ's a lot of times).

If you don't know the facts of the Beta, VHS war... VHS won at the consumer level because the majority of consumers have no idea what they're buying and believed the salesmen when he said "bigger tapes are better!" Which translated to I get a bigger commission for selling VHS. Sad thing is Beta is a much much better quality format and is still in use today at TV studios across the world. Beta gave the consumer exactly what the studios had and still use today... the consumer listened to hype and truly lost out by having to watch very poor video for 15 years.

So public opinion is no judge of quality. Some will buy strictly because XM is $2.00 cheaper a month, mean while they'll spend $3.75 at starbucks in one morning (I'll never get that one).

Public opinion may or may not prevent Sirius from succeeding in the long run, for the sake of humanity I hope they live on forever!

Lastly, there is no doubt that XM is far better than regular FM at this time. I would expect anyone who bought one to rave about it. It truly is a very big step from FM. But how many of those people strongly siding with XM have had Sirius?

I personally know two people that have switched from XM to Sirius because they got tired of XM programing after 3 months.

All I hope to accomplish here is letting potential buyers know that there are major differences between the two and for me Sirius is the best technological choice and content providing choice. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink!

There's no doubt everyone is tired of what FM has become thank goodness we now have options!

Since peoples tastes and needs differ the best way to chose is to actually listening to each, http://www.Sirius.com to listen to the same thing being transmitted to the sats, I recommend US-1 if you like the traditional radio format, DJ commentary etc. or The Trend. And to hear XM you can go to best buy or wherever and listen in the store (web just has a sample proabably due to re broadcasting licensing issues).

Someday our radios will have the capability of listening to both Sirius and XM! Then you'll be able to just jump between the two!Early adoptors always pay a price.

I want a small unit, XM or Sirius that will directly feed into my Nakamichi aux. input. Which want do you recommend?
Jensen's unit could just be thrown in my armrest, I am leaning that way. Your thoughts, please.

Definitley go with XM, The rumor is Sirrus is having some financial troubles, but they are not publicly talking about it. Also think about the partnership comparisons, Pioneer ,Alpine, Delphi, and Sony vs JVC and Kenwood. Pioneer and Alpine have always been competing head to head in the car audio industry. They are the two top brands of head units and changers you can buy, so I think that supports the thought that companies as foreword looking as Pioneer and Alpine would only chooseto partner with a company that had a rock solid foundation and one who had done their homework before they would sign a contract. As a installer I would say the ratio of XM to Sirrus is probablle 5:1 in almost all of the shops I talk to. Just my two sense.

Thanks. I have a Nakamichi HU with Aux input. Which small XM unit can I direct connect (without FM) to the headunit. This is one of the reasons the Jensen Sirius unit appeals to me.

The Delphi SkiFi system is very nice, large red display, rotating dial browser button, nice layout of buttons and face, and a removable unit tha can be transfered to your house if you so choose. We have installed many of them in the past couple months and everyone has seemed very happy with. They come with a tape adapter kit or a hardwire fm kit. the kit includeds all of the stuff you need for a install, including the antenna. I know Citcuit City carrys them.

Check them out.
