S600 Coupe sound system

I have a 95 S600 Coupe. An audio guy told me the sound of the system in the car can be improved by replacing the Bose 7 channel amp with a higher power set of amps, say Rockford or Alpine. Anybody done this or know if it is worth doing. Thought I would add subwoofers at the same time. Thanks in advance.

It is possible to do this but the speakers are not made to handle a lot more power and the stock amps are equalized to maximize the performance of the bose speakers and the new amps won't have the capacity to adjust for the speakers. The other problem is integrating with the speaker level output of the stock stereo, noise etc... If you are going that way I would suggest to just replace it all so it works best with no noise, distortion etc.......

Sound Improvement

Hi Mark,
Scott is right as far as the best way to majorly improve the system is to install a completely new system. However the cost of removal and installation of a new system may run into $2000 or more depending on the choices made.

Another alternative may be just to get the Bose amp rebuilt by us. If the performance is not what it used to have or you have snaps, pops or low noise distortion in the background of the music, you may just need it serviced. The Bose system in your car was designed just for your car. Every speaker has been selected to do a specific job to which the amplifier (which has 7 seperate internal amplifiers) sends the right signal frequency and power to get the great sound that comes out. Rather than give up on the Amp, get it rebuilt and at a much less cost than removing and replacing everything.

Thanks very much for the insight. No obvious problem with my bose amp. What about adding a subwoofer system?

Quick question

Can the Bose Betta be removed from the W140 and placed in another car? Any other car?

Yes, anthing can be done but there is going to be a lot of work and it probably wouldn't make financial sense!
