It is recognizable as one of the MBC units. ___________________________________________________________________ Did you try adjusting the Pre-Load on the P.O. Wastgate Actuator ,first?

I've been using 150A alternators on almost all of my cars for years now. Zero problems. |

Pulleys
Quote:
Pulleys are listed as separate line items in EPC so if you get desperate you can always order one from Pelican Parts. For my 1995 E300 (OM606) as for my former 1987 300D Turbo (OM603) the part number is 604-155-00-15, about $40 depending on the source. Junkyard would be best, of course, you can get an entire alternator for that kinda money. BTW a recent update to EPC now allows part searching with wildcards in the part number. That's gonna come in handy some day. Jeremy

Thanks for the tip! For some reason I didnt think it would be in the EPC. I didn't actually bother to check.
I'm not driving the 190 at the moment so not a huge hurry but definitely on the top of the 190's to-do list. I think thats mine: http://i.imgur.com/uM2iGqi.png

Alternator upgrade
Bless your heart for sharing this; I'm also indebted to another poster for useful information on upgrading stereo. I hope others will post solutions they've found, not just questions.

One question. Might be dumb but just want to know before I do anything. Are the stock 8 gauge looking cables all positive and the smaller one positive?

Yep. Grounding is done through the housing/physical mounts to the engine.

I'm about to do this swap on my 190D 2.0, I got the al0162x 143 amp, hope it fits..
For the wiring, I got 2x 16mm2 (6gauge?) cable from B+ on the alternator to the stock distribution block, and then to the battery. Does this seem right, and is there anything else I need to upgrade? update: I replaced the battery terminal with a better one, it's the first time I do something like this so I want to make sure it's right. Some pictures.. maybe I should replace the stock distribution block http://i.imgur.com/7zjZlZN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ljnIjBj.jpg Last edited by monky; 08-22-2014 at 03:47 PM. |

Do these recommended models have a 25mm or 35mm shaft length? If upgrading to an ORP, does it matter?
Looking at doing some level of this upgrade on my 350sd.

The 143A and 150A units being discussed for serpentine-belt pulleys have a shaft protrusion of approximately 20mm from the face of the pulley seat.
For your 1991 350SD with OM603 engine, just swap the pulley over from the old alternator. |

I did this for my E320 when it hit 100K and it's been fine for several years. One of these days I'll get around to upgrading the wiring, but so far so good and other issues have popped up. Had to drive four hours at 10 mph on one occasion, unexpected snowstorm, and it handled the full electrical load (including rear window heater) without issues. Highly recommended, and another hat tip to gsxr.
