help - Nakamichi CD45z power off??? 300E
Hi,
I have a nak cd45z in my 300e with diamond audio coaxs' and a infinity basslink (which i am super pleased with!)... I am wondering if anyone knows any way to actually turn off the Nak unit so there is no power going to it when I am not listening to music (it does not seem to have an on/off switch!). It is so frustrating because I don't want my sub powered when I am not even running the stereo and hate the idea of installing some little switch somewhere just for the sub... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jerry

Wow, that is the exact system I was planning on doing in my 300E! Which diamonds did you use? I was looking at the M341i 4 1/2" coax units, but haven't been sure if the tweeter will clear the grill. If not, I will have to look at the seperates and mount the tweeter elsewhere. I plan on bi-amping the front Diamonds off the head unit and using the fader control as a 'brilliance' adjust. No rear speakers, just the Bass Link.
Did you leave out the rear speakers for porting the sub, or cut an extra hole in the first aid kit? Bypass the fader? I understood the basslink would auto power to 'on' when the power to the head unit came on - do I have that wrong? The CD45Z shows a 'power off' function on the 'source button at the upper left of the unit. Is this not shutting off the head unit?

JCE:
I used 4" Diamond Audios' in the front and rear just running off the head unit. The sub is mounted up under the first aid kit, hanging so to speak but very solid. I came to the point where I was just sick of thinking about ways to leave in the carpet under the lid of that first aid kit... I figure the car is much over ten years old anyway so I was not extremely anal about keeping the car 100% original. I am having a screen made for hole under the lid of the first aid kit. BTW, that metal cuts like butter with my Bosch Saber Saw and a sharp new blade, no problems there. I simply felt that the system would be too weak w/out those rear coaxs' filling in the sound... Also, I did bypass the OE fader control. The basslink does have an "auto power-on" function however I am suspicious of how that works. Put it this way, I want that bass link on at all times whenever there is music pumping through my 4s'. I don't want it's on/off function to be subjective, i want to know it is on. Okay JCE, I think I am the biggest jackass on the planet right now. I just ran to the garage to play with the Nak (yet again) to find out that to power off the unit you only need to hold down the source button. Thanks for pointing out the obvious! I am so pleased with the Nak CD45z. It is a great performer and has caused me zero problems (for over 1 year). I bough the DA 4s' from ebay and the Nak from www.smilephotovideo.com I am not a huge sound freak, but let me know if you have any more ?'s about my install. Thanks
