Double Din in W124

I know this has been asked before but due to lack of replies, I have to post this again. I need to know if anyone has managed to squeeze a double din into a W124. If so could you please share the pics with us.
thanks.

I have never heard of this. I suppose you could, if you ditched the ashtray and cut off part of the center console wood trim. But then again I'm not sure if the depth would be adequate, or for that matter the width, since it gets narrower towards the bottom of the console. Why do you want a double DIN unit?

Do it custom style!!! Install it inside the glove box.

Haha, sticking the stereo in the glovebox might make it a bit inconvenient for the driver to change CD's or the volume. Seriously though, pull out the old stereo and remove the ashtray. Measure the depth and width in the ashtray area. Who knows, it just MIGHT fit!

thanks for the replies guys.
well from what i can tell so far, it will fit BUT it will leave spaces around the area where the ashtray used to be before. therefore i wanted to see if anyone else has tried some custom fit. but hey i guess i'll take the initiative. when i do i'll post some pics too.

Bear in mind that the "platform" which supports the bottom of the existing radio will need to be cut out, so if you ever want to go back to a single DIN with the ashtray, it might be a pain in the butt. Please take pictures of the install!

Brabus has done it before. It was to a dark green w124 with a full brabus package. They installed command where the radio and ashtray currently are, and then apparently slid the ashtray down closer to the shift lever thereby retaining the ash tray while still incorporating a double din unit. Unfortunetaly, I don't remember on what thread I saw the pictures, but I am pretty sure it was on this forum.

that doesnt look right. looks like a software altered image. take a look at the interior. there's no place for a double din the way the image shows it..

by the way the pic i've posted is not from my car. it's the image i've copied off of the web just to show how the original interior looks like with the single din in it.

Benz300.

No software magic.

If you look carefully you'll see that some
of the ashtray trim is removed and also
the angle of the ashtray is alot sharper.
It is also moved more toward the shifter.

Louis.

If you want to use OEM parts, you can get the taxi center console, available in Europe.
