Just recently my 10 CD Changer would not load any of my cd's. When I checked the system in my trunk I can hear a spinning sound as though a cd is trying to load. This goes on for about 30 seconds then the noise stops. HELP. I have contacted a couple of repair places but you know how that goes, they practically want to replace the system.
I'm hoping it's something less expensive than that.

Have you tried Becker Auto Sound? I'm not sure of the website address, but I believe they repair mercedes becker radio's.

I have had a problem with my 10 disc similiar to that.....I pulled the fuse out and put in back about 5 seconds later. This reset the changer and then it worked fine. Otherwise you have send it back to Becker(I have done that once also) which will be about $200.00

Matt:

My 8-year old Becker 10-CD changer did exactly this. Pulling and replacing the fuse didn't work in my case. Call Scott (not Steve)Brotherton at Continental Imports in Gainesville, FL 352-377-6604. They are an authorized Becker dealer and do some repairs, but with mine they sent it to the factory in New Jersey. I figured it being that old, the factory could give it an overall look and adjust/replace anything that needed it. Total cost door to door: $250.

Good luck.

Are we talking about resetting the radio fuse? If not, where is this fuse located?

great dialog on changer problem. Can y'all help me with a couple of related questions?

I have a '92 400e w original becker system. The car's original window sticker states,"prewired for optional 10D CD changer".

Where is the wiring? I have looked in the trunk and can't seem seem to find it.

Speaking of the Becker CD changer, got any resources for finding one ?

Thanks,

Jeff C.

the wiring should be in the right hand trunk well it is probably behind the trunk right side paneling. you will probably have to remove the paneling.

My 300CE has the changer wires running on the right side and I believe thats where they put it. the cell phone brain usually goes on the left trunk well.

Thanks to all who have responded to my request. Yes, I found the wiring and fuse. I have taken my cd changer to a becker specialist here at San Diego (RADIOMAN) they are repairing this system for $275.00. It beats buying a new system financially.

Talking Solution to Becker Silverstone 980 CD changer

I just wanted to pass this experience along in case it may help someone. I have a 92 300E and wanted to put a Becker 980 Silverstone CD changer in it. I found one on Ebay and when I plugged it into the tuner in the trunk the Becker head unit recognized the changer but the loading mechanism on the changer was not working. I called ED EBEL at Becker several times and finally got a response that they may not be able to repair these anymore because they were having problems getting a power relay for them. Even if they could repair them the cost is $250.00 including shipping for a 10 year old worn out player. I checked into the Alpine 620 changer but the Becker head unit in the 92 300e requires about $300 worth of conversion cables and data converter boxes. This was 3 times the price of the Alpine CD changer I had located. I finally went with a CD changer with an FM modulated tuner. The output plugs directly into the antenna tuner in the trunk and it works like a charm. It has a digital to analog converter so the sound is not supposed to be quite as crisp but I honestly cannot tell the difference. High quality CDs sound absolutely clean to me. The best part is the late model CD changers will play all home recorded CD-R and CD-RW and the old Becker Silverstone will not. JVC, Pioneer, Sony among others make the FM modulated CD changer. Hope this helps someone avoid all the wasted time I spent researching the Becker system.
