1994 Mercedes c220 RADIO
Could someone tell me whether the original radio on a Mercedes c220 has ISO/DIN connectors so that I can just remove the original radio and plug in a third-party ISO/DIN-compliant radio without a need to modify any wires or connectors?
Thanks. Eric |

Actually.....It isnt... More
The radio is ISO/DIN size.
Pretty much any iso/din chassis sized radio will fit into the dash perfectly. Depth isnt that much of an issue on this car either. There is NO standard for wiring though, Each aftermarket manufacturer (sony, alpine, kenwood etc....) use a different wiring harness. There is no aftermarket radio that will plug directly into the wiring harness that plugs into the factory radio, In fact there is not even an aftermarket female wiring harness to leave the stock wiring in tact and just plug into it, as there is for most cars. The radio will have to be wired into the cars existing wiring manually. This isnt that hard to do, if you are familar with automotive electrical systems, and basic stereo installation concepts..... However, if you dont feel comfortable testing, and isolating wires, please leave the job to a competent (read: NOT best buy, circuit city etc) shop that specializes in automotive stereo systems. You will spend ~ 50 dollars for an installation, but it will save you tons of headaches considering the consequences of botching the job. Most reputable shops will also warranty their work for the lifetime of the car. One thing I would ask of any shop is to leave enough wire on the factory connectors so they can be reattached if you ever choose to replace the new aftermarket radio with the original unit. Hope this clears things up, George

Well.....The MB connectors are standardized....
But, he specifically asked about using a third party radio.
Any late model mb radio (except for the fiber optic ones) will plug into any other late model mb... plug and play. Anything third party wont.... thats all I was saying.. George

My 2002 SLK Radio is has a fiber optic CD-Changer connection. The only problem with using a fiber optic stereo is that you have to use a fiber optic CD Changer.
You can use an AUDI/VW wiring harness adapter if you're going to use a third party radio. Regards, Don
