1992 190E 2.3 radio

Hey all,

I have a '92 190E in the shop with the stock Alpine unit. When you power up the radio, there is barely any volume unless you turn the knob almost to full. I am assuming that the radio chassis itself is at fault. Also the only speaker which works at all is the left front, and as I said, the sound almost nonexistent. Any thoughts?

There is a major problem with all of the capacitors in your radio. When they start going bad there are lots of things that can happen. The most common is dc offset which can damage some or all of your speakers. I would reccomend talking to Cleeve in my repair shop as he has rebuilt units he can do an exchange for you and send it to you. He is at www.lajollaaudiorepair.com
